In this CAT infrastructure, we're using DCM4CHEE as a PACS for anonymized DICOM scans. Oviyam is used as a viewer on top of DCM4CHEE.

Download latest PostgreSQL (psql) version ( and unzip to C: JavaPrograms. Install JBOSS. Open a command window as an administrator. Navigate to C: JavaPrograms dcm4chee-2.18.0-psql bin. - Install JBOSS
- Open a command window as an administrator
- Navigate to C:JavaProgramsdcm4chee-2.18.0-psqlbin
- Run: install_jboss.bat C:JavaProgramsjboss-4.2.3.GA
- Update driver
- Goto http://jdbc.postgresql.org/download.html and download the latest JDBC4 driver
- Place the new driver in C:JavaProgramsdcm4chee-2.17.1-psqlserverdefaultlib and remove the old one
- Create pacsdb database in PostgreSQL
- Open pgAdminIII
- Double click on local PostgreSQL server and login using the postgres user
- Right-click Login Roles and chose New Login Role.
- Role name pacs_admin
- Define a password and store it in Keepass
- Right-click Databases and choose New Database.
- Fill in
- Name: pacsdb
- Owner: pacs_admin
- Check encoding is UTF8 (Definition tab)
- Click pacsdb and select Tools>Query tool
- Change the user to pacs_admin (otherwise the owner of the table will be the postgres user)
- Pull down to the right of pacsdb on postgres@localhost:5432
- Click new connection
- Change Username to pacs_admin
- Click ok
- Fill in pacs_admin password
- Open query file at 'C:JavaProgramsdcm4chee-2.17.1-psqlsqlcreate.psql'
- Note that in 2.18.0 there is an error in the script. Replace 'CREATE INDEX published_study ON published_study(study_fk);' with 'CREATE INDEX published_study<span>_fk</span> ON published_study(study_fk);'
- Click execute query
- Provide credentials to dcm4chee
- Open 'C:JavaProgramsdcm4chee-2.17.1-psqlserverdefaultdeploypacs-postgres-ds.xml' in Notepad++
- Change the use to pacs_admin
- Add the pacs user password
- Correct WADO compression (see section 8 of http://www.dcm4che.org/confluence/display/ee2/Installation)
- Open 'C:JavaProgramsdcm4chee-2.17.1-psqlserverdefaultconfxmdescdcm4chee-wado-xmbean.xml' in Notepad++
- Search for ImageWriterClass
- Replace <value value='com.sun.media.imageioimpl.plugins.jpeg.CLibJPEGImageWriter' /> with <value value='com.sun.image.codec.jpeg.JPEGImageEncoder' />
- Save file
- Test the installation
- Run 'C:JavaProgramsdcm4chee-2.17.1-psqlbinrun.bat'
- Go to http://localhost:8080/dcm4chee-web3/
- Login with admin/admin
- Change the logging level (AD: this caused in one case the DCM4CHEE to fail to start, not sure why)
- Open 'C:JavaProgramsdcm4chee-2.18.0-psqlserverdefaultconfjboss-log4j.xml'
- Locate the line containing: <param name='Target' value='System.out'/> (around line 80)
- Change the next line from <param name='Threshold' value='INFO'/> into <param name='Threshold' value='WARN'/>
- Save the file
- Add an archive for dicom file storage
- Go to 'http://localhost:8080/jmx-console'
- Click on 'group=ONLINE_STORAGE,service=FileSystemMgt'
- Search for the function 'addRWFileSystem()'
- Fill in the folder name as ParamValue (in our case D:pacs_archive
- Click Invoke
- Change the administrator password (note: these credentials are also for the jmx-console)
- Go to http://localhost:8080/dcm4chee-web3/
- Log with username/password: admin/admin
- Go to 'Password' in the upper bar
- Enter admin as the original password
- Enter a new password, and store it in the keepass file
- Click 'Save'
- Install PACS as a windows service
- Set system Environment Variable JAVA_HOME to the <u>32</u> bit installation of Java JDK (e.g. C:Program Files (x86)Javajdk1.7.0_65)
- Add %JAVA_HOME%bin to the Path variable
- Open a command prompt as administrator (right-click on command-prompt)
- Go to the folder C:JavaProgramsdcm4chee-2.18.0-psqlbin (cd C:JavaProgramsdcm4chee-2.18.0-psqlbin)
- Enter the command: install_service.bat server
- Enable option to delete studies from DB when removed from file system
- open the JMX console at http://localhost:8080/jmx-console
- Click on 'service=DeleteStudy'
- In the table, search for 'DeleteStudyFromDB' (first column), and select True (instead of the default, which is False)
- In the table, search for 'DeletePatientWithoutObjects' (first column), and select True (instead of the default, which is False)
- Click 'Apply Changes' at the bottom of this table
- Enable deletion of patients without an Issuer of Patient ID <span>(JvS: I've filled the tag in CTP (0010,0021) with 'CAT', then DCM4CHEE uses 'CAT' as the issuer and makes it possible to delete files)</span>
- open the JMX console at http://localhost:8080/jmx-console
- Click on 'service=WebConfig'
- Set trustPatientIdWithoutIssuer to True and click Apply Changes
- Set AE title to CAT
- Go to http://localhost:8080/jmx-console/
- Go to service=AE
- Scroll down to updateAETitle()
- Fill in prevAET 'DCM4CHEE'
- Fill in newAET 'CAT'
- Click Invoke

- Download latest version of Oviyam from http://oviyam.raster.in/index.html
- Unzip to C:JavaPrograms
- Stop dcm4chee
- Copy oviyam2.war from to 'C:JavaProgramsdcm4chee-2.17.1-psqlserverdefaultdeploy'
- Start dcm4chee
- Navigate to http://localhost:8080/oviyam2/ in Google Chrome (give it a minute the first time you start)
- Login is the same as dcm4chee
- Click Settings (right top drop down)
- Add CAT server
- Description: CAT
- AE title: CAT
- Host name: localhost
- Port: 11112
- Retrieve Type: WADO
- WADO Context: wado
- WADO Port: 8080
- Press save (disk icon)
